If you’ve seen our camera listings before you’ll know that we regularly service and sell prewar Leica, Contax, Super Ikonta, Bessa rangefinder cameras. Personally, I love using these cameras but as a collector I’m also interested other brands and models as well. Frankly, classic cameras don’t always need to cost a small fortune to be enjoyable. There are lesser known collectables that will deliver lovely results and a lot of fun too.

With this in mind let me introduce you to a very nice example of what I’m talking about. In this listing we have a very lovely Ebner 6x4.5 folding camera in brown marbleized Bakelite. Some collectors classify the design of this camera as part of the “Art Deco” movement, while others categorize it as a “Streamline Modern” design. Whichever title you prefer is of course up to you, but it is without a doubt a very attractive camera. It’s also a rather rare one since it was produced in very limited numbers. This model 306 was produced from February of 1934 to February of 1935 in Stuttgart Germany by Ebner GmbH. It was a fairly large company and at that time they were attempting to diversify its holdings, however in 1935 this company went bankrupt. So as a result of the low production numbers and the low survival rate after 85 years, the Ebner has become a rare, desirable camera.

This Ebner camera has managed to survive WWII here in Europe and 85 years of assorted history and come out of it in excellent condition. Additionally, it’s been carefully serviced by us, so that you can count on it to give you many more years of pleasure. It uses normal 120 roll film. Which of course means that film is easily available for it.

The quality Compur shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B, T & 1 sec - 1/300th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly and the fast speeds are clean and snappy. The bellows are supple and completely light tight.

The lens is a Meyer Gorlitz 4.5/7.5cm (75mm) Trioplan which is a classic Cooke design with three elements in three groups. It’s well known for the attractive rendition and bokeh it produces. The glass is in excellent condition, it's clean and clear. There are no scratches just some light cleaning wisps and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color & B&W films. (As with all prewar lenses, we recommend keeping the light behind you for optimal performance.)

All in all, a rare little classic camera that will add an interesting touch of color to your collection. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing you had a classic camera with you.
