This week we have a freshly serviced Super Ikonta. It has a built in coupled rangefinder that never leaves you guessing about the distance or the focus. It’s a lovely camera that easily slips into a jacket pocket or a back pack and yet folds out to take 8 beautiful 6x9 exposures on normal 120 roll film. Bright exposures alive with all the vivid details and lovely colors that only medium format or larger can provide. When it comes to photography, bigger is better and with this camera you can create a negative that is about 6 times larger than the average 35mm snap shot. So whether you’re interested in very large prints, very fine grain, rich tonal gradations or lovely colors, this camera will do all of that and may just become your favorite photographic companion.

This is an exceptionally fine post-war Super Ikonta. This is the highest specified version of this great camera. This quality German camera was built in circa 1955 and it’s obvious that it’s been well taken care of. (Please see photos.).

It has a built in coupled rangefinder that never leaves you guessing about the distance or the focus. It’s very popular with artists, landscape photographers and collectors. This late version has an MX Synchro-Compur shutter which allows the use of an electronic flash. It also has a coated Zeiss 3.5/105mm lens, which produces a higher contrast image and more saturated colors.

If you’re familiar with Zeiss cameras then you’ll know that the post-war cameras such as the various Super Ikonta and Contax cameras featured coated Zeiss lenses. These cameras and lenses are considered classics and are popular with photographers as well as collectors because of their outstanding quality.

The camera has been carefully Cleaned, Lubricated and Adjusted. The coupled rangefinder has been cleaned and it’s clean, bright and accurate. The bellows are soft, supple and light tight. The top quality Synchro-Compur shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B & 1 sec - 1/500th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz smoothly and the fast ones are clean and snappy. The flash sync. connector has been tested. An electronic flash will fire correctly at any desired shutter speed. (This is of course very convenient for fill flash.)

This Super Ikonta has an very fine Carl Zeiss 3.5/105mm Tessar coated lens. (A top quality classic design with four elements in three groups.) The lens is exceptionally clean and clear. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other problems. There are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing beautiful results with modern color and B&W films

This camera is capable of producing 6x4.5 negatives and it comes complete with an original Zeiss-Ikon reduction mask and a Zeiss-Ikon brown leather case.
