Here’s a lovely camera that easily slips into a jacket pocket or a back pack and yet folds out to take 8 beautiful 6x9cm exposures on a 120 roll film. Bright exposures alive with all the vivid details that only medium format or larger can provide. When it comes to film, bigger is better and with this camera you can create a negative that is about 6 times larger than the average 35mm snap shot. So whether you’re interested in large prints, fine grain, rich tonal gradations or lovely colors, this camera will do all of that and may just become your favorite photographic companion.  

This is a 6x9 Voigtlander Bessa which was introduced in the second half of the 1930‘s. The German camera was capable of producing very lovely photos and was so popular that production continued after WWII. This serial number on this lens 3047775 indicates that it was produced in 1948.

The camera is in near mint condition with only light signs of very careful use. Well made, it produces excellent photos and handles beautifully. The camera has a nice detail in that when it is opened, the view finder flips open automatically. This helps keep the finder clean, protected and additionally creates smooth lines so that it slides easily into an unused corner of your camera bag.

This camera has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. It works well and will continue to do so for many years to come. The real leather bellows are supple and light tight. The top quality Compur - Rapid shutter works well and all the speeds from (B, 1 sec – 1/400^th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly are smooth and the fast speeds are clean and snappy.

The lens is a coated f4.5/105mm Vaskar lens. It’s based on the classic Cooke triplet and features three lens elements in three groups. This design is well known for its lovely rendering. Stopped down they’re very sharp. But in addition to this they also produce very lovely photos when shot wide open and focused close. In the case of the latter, focus rolls off gently and the background bokeh has an attractive soft rounded look to it.  

The lens looks virtually new. It’s clean and clear. The coating is perfect, there are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing beautiful photos with modern color and B&W film.
