Near Mint! 1954 Rolleicord with Synchro-Compur shutter & Coated lens with original case, CLA'd, Freshly Serviced!
Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use!
If you’re familiar with the Rolleiflex and Rolleicord cameras you’ll know that they’re considered a cult classic by many fans. It’s a 6x6 TLR camera that uses 120 roll film. It was and is a popular the camera and even today it’s often mentioned on websites as an excellent way to get into medium format photography. It’s a wonderful design that just like the Leica, inspired countless copies over numerous decades.
The camera in this listing is the real deal and about as good as it gets. It’s in near mint condition and it’s been carefully serviced so you can count on it to you many years of pleasure. The serial number on top of this camera (1379072) indicates that it was produced in Germany in late 1954 / early 1955. Nearly 70 years after it left the factory it still looks virtually new and fresh and works beautifully. It’s one of the nicest we’ve seen and I think you’d be hard pressed to find a finer example.
This camera is fitted with a Synchro-Compur shutter. It works well and all speeds (B & 1 Sec-1/500th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly and the faster ones are clean and snappy. This shutter is flash synched and it has been tested and adjusted. It will fire with a normal electronic flash at any desired shutter speed. (This is of course convenient for fill flash.) Focusing is smooth and accurate, the mirror looks like new and the image on the matt glass is excellent.
The coated Schneider Xenar 3.5/75mm lens is in superb condition. (The Xenar and the Tessar share a near identical four element design and performance for both of these lenses is outstanding.) The lens is clean and clear. There are no scratches, no cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing very lovely photos with modern color and black & white films.
It comes complete with an original brown leather case & leather shoulder strap.
All in all, a very enjoyable vintage camera. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing that you had a classic camera with you.
