Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use

This is a 1934 Voigtlander Superb TLR from, referred to by collectors  as the “ big ears” due to the large unique camera strap mounts located on either side of the body.  It’s a very desirable and rather rare camera since this version was only produced for approximately one year. Introduced the same year as the legendary Voigtlander Prominent rangefinder camera, the Superb shares many of the goals, philosophy and manufacturing techniques displayed in the Prominent. Voigtlander explored a serious alternative design for the 6x6 Rolleiflex and then created this heavy duty "Über Kamera". The body is die-cast alloy. Film moves horizontally rather than vertically (as in in Rolleiflex). To adjust for viewfinder parallax, the top lens moves forward and down when the camera is close focused. Among the interesting features, the shutter speed dial is engraved in reverse (mirrored) so that it will appear correctly when viewed from above through a small prism.  It’s a substantial camera and it weighs quite a bit more than a classic Rolleiflex.

This example is in exceptionally fine condition for its age and of course we’ve carefully cleaned and fully serviced it. The viewing mirror is tarnished. We've ordered a replacement mirror which will be fitted to this camera before we ship it to you, however it will be at least two weeks before we receive it. (We're listing this Voigtlander Superb so that you can purchase it before the holidays if you're so inclined. Or you can wait and hope it's  still available the next time you look at it.)

As I mentioned, this camera has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The Compur shutter works well and all speeds 1 Sec-1/250th are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along nicely and the faster ones are clean and snappy. The little prism in front of the shutter speed dial has a small chip on one corner but still functions. It's purpose is to allow a view of the shutter speeds from above. (It's hinged and can be moved out of the way for a normal view of the shutter speed dial.)

The Voigtlander Skopar 3.5/7,5 cm (75mm) lens is in excellent condition. It’s a classic design with four elements in three groups and it’s design and performance is nearly identical to the Zeiss Tessar. This lens is exceptionally clean and clear. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other defects. There are no scratches, no cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color and B&W film.

All in all, a wonderful hard to find vintage camera for your collection.
