This is a lovely post-war Super Ikonta. This was the final and highest spec’d version of this classic rangefinder camera. This quality German camera is finely finished in black lacquer, chrome and real leather. The lens serial number indicates it was produced in circa 1950 and it’s obvious that it’s been well taken care of.(Please see photos.).

It has a built in coupled rangefinder that never leaves you guessing about the distance and makes focusing quick and easy. This post-war version differs from previous models in that it has a coated Zeiss-Opton 3.5/105mm Tessar lens and a synchronized Compur Rapid shutter which allows the use of an electronic flash. This camera produces a slightly higher contrast and slightly more saturated colors compared to the prewar versions. It’s very popular with artists, landscape photographers and collectors. That said, all versions of the Super Ikonta cameras, both pre & post-war, are capable of producing very lovely photos! The overall look and atmosphere is simply a subjective, artistic choice.

The camera has been carefully Cleaned, Lubricated and Adjusted. The coupled rangefinder has been cleaned and it’s clean, bright and accurate. The bellows are soft, supple and light tight. The quality Compur- Rapid shutterworks smoothly and all speeds (B & 1 sec - 1/400th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz smoothly and the fast ones are clean and snappy. The flash sync. has been adjusted and tested. An electronic flash will fire correctly at any desired shutter speed. (This is of course very convenient for fill flash.)

This Super Ikonta has a Zeiss-Opton 3.5/105mm Tessar coated lens. (A superb classic design with four elements in three groups.) I should point out that this lens has numerous cleaning marks but despite that it’s capable of producing lovely photos. The glass is clean & clear. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other problems and it works well with modern color and B&W films

It comes complete with an original Zeiss-Ikon reduction mask which in addition to 6x9, allows it to also produce 6x4.5 images negatives.

All in all, a wonderful classic camera. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing you had a classic rangefinder camera with you.
