Superb! 1934 Welta Perle 6x9 Medium Format Folder, Freshly Serviced, CLA'd!

If you’ve seen our items before you’ll know that we service and sell prewar cameras. Personally, I love using and collecting cameras from Zeiss-Ikon, Voigtlander and Leitz. But as a collector I’m also interested other brands and models as well. Frankly, classic cameras don’t always need to cost a small fortune to be enjoyable. The important thing is that you enjoy whatever you’re using and that it’s been recently serviced so that you can count on it giving consistent results with a clean shutter and glass that’s been cleaned inside and out.

With this in mind let me introduce you to a nice example of what I’m talking about. In this listing we have a lovely Welta Perle (which means pearl in German). It was produced in by Welta Kamera Werk factory which was located near Dresden Germany. The serial number of the shutter (2458235) indicates that it was manufactured in 1934. Like many of the better cameras of this period, it features embossed leather covering, real leather bellows and contrasting edges and a high-end lens and shutter.

This one has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted and it’s ready to be used. The lens on this camera is particularly fine, it’s a 4.5/10,5cm (105mm) Rodenstock Doppel Anastigmat Eurynar. It’s a four-element lens, with all the elements spaced out individually, similar to some of the designs produced by Goertz. It’s a lens that produces a very pleasant vintage look in your photographs coupled to a very attractive bokeh. (If you’re not familiar with this lens, you may want to google “Eurynar” to find examples of photos taken with this lens.   

The glass is exceptionally clean and clear and looks virtually new. There are no scratches, no cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color and b&w films.   

 This lens is set into a quality Compur shutter. The shutter works well and all speeds (T, B & 1 sec – 1/250^th) appear to be appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly and the fast speeds are clean and snappy. The real leather bellows are in great shape and completely light tight.

When it comes to photography, bigger is better and with this camera you can create a negative that’s nearly 6 times larger than the average 35mm snapshot. So, whether you’re interested in very large prints, very fine grain, rich tonal gradations or lovely colors this camera will do all of that and may just become your favorite classic photographic companion

All in all, an excellent enjoyable vintage camera. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark clouds that leaves you wishing you had a classic camera with you.
