This is a Voigtlander Brillant TLR is from circa 1932. Produced during the 1930’s depression, compared to the higher end offerings from Voigtlander the Brillant it was a modest camera intended for buyers on a budget. Despite that the Brillant was an excellent design and had features that significantly increased its performance compared to other cameras in this segment.

To make it easier and more convenient to use, the Brillant features a film frame counter on the side of the camera. To increase performance this camera (which is the top-of-the model is fitted with a quality Compur shutter and a 4.5/75mm Skopar lens. The Skopar is a quality lens. It’s similar in design and performance to the Zeiss Tessar.

Some 86 years after it was produced, this Voigtlander is in excellent condition. Naturally it has some signs of use but it’s obvious that someone took care of it. And in case you’re wondering, it uses 120 roll film which is of course still widely available. So if you’ve been looking for a reliable prewar camera to work with, without breaking the bank, you may have found it. It’s a lovely little camera and enjoyable to use.

This camera has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The Compur shutter works well and all speeds (T, B, & 1 Sec-1/300th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along nicely and the faster ones are clean and snappy.

The Voigtlander Skopar 4.5/7,5 cm (75mm) lens is in exceptionally fine condition. The Skopar is a classic design with four elements in three groups. This lens is very clean and clear. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other defects. There are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color or B&W films.
